Job Purpose

UCASU Bar Staff will work as a team to provide an outstanding level of customer service and experience. The post-holder will be trained in preparation and service of drinks, till operation, cash handling, customer service, stock rotation, stocking, product knowledge and promotions.  Working as an effective member of bar staff the post holder will provide:

 

  • Excellent customer service.

  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, health and safety.

  • Ensure high standards and efficiency of work.

  • Maintain strict stock control and financial control.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and serve beverages to required standards and in line with Health & Safety standards and legislation.

  • Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and appropriate presentation (adherence to uniform standards and the hygiene guidelines).

  • Conform to bar operations procedures.

  • Contribute as a team member to ideas in relation to operational efficiency and service standards and make recommendations. 

  • Ensure cleanliness of the service and non-service areas of the bar; carrying out cleaning as specified.

  • Till operation and cash handling.

  • Attend all required training.

  • Maintain knowledge of promotions.

  • Assist in relevant key events throughout the year e.g. Freshers, Summer Ball, Degree show etc.

  • Work with all team members in a fair and respectful manner.

 

Customer Focus

  • Communicate respectfully and professionally to customers at all times.

  • Treat customers, other staff, contractors, and acts with dignity and respect, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.

  • Take responsibility for queries raised; ensuring their resolution either directly or through the Bar Supervisor or Bar & Venue Manager.

  • Recognise issues which may interfere with customer satisfaction, taking action to rectify where appropriate and alerting others where necessary.

  • Ensure that the customer areas are kept clean and tidy.

  • Ensure that products are displayed so that the customer can identify them.


 

Stock & Financial Control

  • Tills

    • Employees are responsible for the accuracy of transactions.

    • Ensure till security at all times.

  • Report any mistakes and problems to the Bar Supervisor or Bar & Venue Manager.

  • Ensure stock rotation is applied when filling the fridges and that the correct storage method is applied to each product.

  • Stock levels should be monitored throughout your shift and replenished.

  • Record all wastage, including drip trays. 

  • Employees are responsible for recording any drinks for themselves, security and acts.


 

Health & Safety

  • Ensure high standards of health and safety are maintained at all times

  • Complete required cleaning tasks in accordance with the bar’s nightly and weekly tasks sheet, ensuring the work has been completed to a high standard.

  • Ensure the bar, venue and storage areas are kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition.

  • Ensure any faults or problems with equipment and the venue are reported to the Venue Manager.

  • Work in a way that minimises risks to the health and safety and security of self and others.

  • Ensure all cleaning products and any other bar substances are used and stored appropriately.

  • To have a full understanding of the fire evacuation procedures.
