Hi all, I hope everyone had a good break from uni over Winter! To those of you who have seen me around and have spoken to me. it’s good to see you all returning into the chaos of university life.
Last term was busy! I assisted and helped oversee Freshers Week, attended so many university board meetings and spoke to multiple of you; in Farnham we also moved the Workshop in Farnham into the SU office space. I attended almost all applicant days / open days, introducing the Students’ Union to the new potential students and showing them what the Union can provide to them during their time here at UCA. I also graduated two weeks into starting this job, and had to give a speech to all the students who were graduating alongside me. We had our first successful Annual General Meeting for the first time in four years; heavy appreciation from me to those who came by and attended. In Farnham, the Union managed to collaborate with the local Nandos that recently opened for a Wings and Art night! Students who joined were able to have free food and drink, alongside taking home a free nandos sketchbook and paintbrush.
There’s a lot coming up this term. We’re starting off the year with our Meet Your Union event on Wednesday 22 January, across all three campuses, providing students who visit with freebies, prizes to be won, and also some lovely advertisements from our clubs and societies that your Students’ Union membership allows you to participate and engage with. Feel free to swing by between 10AM - 2PM and say hi!
The Union is hosting some extremely fun events this term too! There’s a lot of student fundraisers so be sure to drop by and attend to help support your friends and fellow classmates. There’s even a boxing tournament and black tie afterparty that’s being put on by our Boxing society; a Fantasy ball that’s been hosted in Farnham Castle and provides a two course meal in the ticket price, and finally at the end of the year there is the Union Awards and Summer Ball! This event allows students to nominate fellow classmates and staff to receive awards that you think they deserve. A true way to feel truly appreciated during your / their time here at UCA.
As you can see there’s many fun and interesting things upcoming this year for you to get involved in and enjoy your time as we very slowly start to enter Spring and Summer. If you see me on campus feel free to say hi to me / other Union staff or even come swing by the Office / Shop and see what we have to offer for you!
