RENEWABLE ENERGY AT UCA

UCA campuses generate renewable energy from solar panels installed on building roofs at the Farnham and Epsom campuses.

In October 2019 UCA signed up to a landmark renewable energy deal alongside 19 other leading UK universities.

Through what’s known as an aggregated power purchase agreement (PPA) with The Energy Consortium (TEC), UCA has committed to buying 20% of its electricity from four UK windfarms.

The PPA was arranged by Squeaky Clean Energy in partnership with TEC.  For a period of ten years, Statkraft, Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, will annually deliver the wind power from their British portfolio, with the 20 participating universities paying collectively £50m for the energy.

UCA’s Carbon Management Plan has already achieved a 45% reduction in carbon emissions from energy consumption in the last ten years and since 2017 has tripled the amount of renewable energy generated by solar panels on its campuses to some 50 Megawatt hours a year.
