Every campus has their own Communities calendar, packed full of activities and events for a wide range of interests and identities. You can go along to anything that you like, make friends, have fun and learn new things. You can register to be a part of a Community to keep up to date with events and activities. You will also be able to register/pay for certain sessions online!
Our Core Communities are:
This community offers the most diverse range of activities; creativity, sport, personal development, and social. Each campus will have a bespoke calendar of activities and events that are open to everyone, with a few different options every week.
Whether you’re a Course Rep or just interested in helping to shape your course, the Education Community will offer activities and opportunities to give feedback, share ideas, and sometimes collaborate with UCA staff to make changes to your academic experience.
Emotional and physical health is the focus of the Wellbeing Community. Activities such as mindfulness, yoga, and our popular Chill and Chat sessions will pop up throughout each term.
This community is for anyone interested in the environment; there’ll be volunteering opportunities like litter picks, and workshops about green activism or how to be zero-waste. We’re in a climate crisis, and the Sustainability Community could be a positive impact on UCA’s four local areas.
The International Community is open to all students, to encourage greater connections between international and UK students. Much like the Identity Communities, there will be a variety of fun activities and meet-ups to help get to know each other.
Our Identity Communities:
The Identity Communities are specifically for students who identify into those Communities. These Communities’ activities are opportunities to make friends, have discussions, and enjoy activities from coffee mornings to art therapy and more.
This Community is for BAME (Black and Minority Ethnicities) students only.
This Community is for Women students only. The Women Students Community is inclusive of trans women.
This Community is for LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer +) students only.
This Community is for Disabled students only.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
All the Communities’ activities can be found on one big Communities calendar, which is released on the 15th of every month. This calendar can be found on the Activities page of the UCASU website, on Facebook and Instagram. Most activities and events take place during lunchtimes (between 12pm and 2pm) or at the end of the day, 5pm onwards. Some more expensive activities will require a small fee on the day, but most of Communities will be completely free to you, so you can make the most of your time at UCA.
HOW CAN I BE PART OF IT?
You can attend as many or as few activities, across the Communities, as you like. Communities are open to everyone. If you want to go beyond that, you have the opportunity to volunteer to be an ‘Activator’. Activators make a Community better – you could help the Union come up with ideas and plan future activities, bid for funding to run your own activity, promote the Community and support the ongoing activities. This is an exciting chance to be involved in event planning, make your ideas real, and be part of a thriving and active Community of students. To become an Activator, simply complete the form below and someone from the Union will put you in touch with fellow Activators and give you basic training on how to make the most of the role.
Communities are an incredibly exciting new opportunity this year – there’ll be dozens of free and low cost activities and events on each campus, a new way to volunteer, and closer communities with shared interests and identities.
