It’s been five years since we had a change in brand, and the Union has come a long way in that time. So we’ve decided that to reflect where we are now and where we’re planning to go, we need a refresh. That’s where you come in – we want students to be involved at every stage of the process!
WE ARE RUNNING A COMPETITION TO BE PART OF THE DESIGN TEAM THAT WILL CREATE THE UNION’S NEW IDENTITY
From the entries received, a selection group will be looking for skills that demonstrate the talent required to develop a strong and flexible identity. Successful entrants will be asked to be part of the design team. This is an opportunity to work on branding that the Union will use on all materials and publicity.
The design team will then develop a number of options to present to students, senior university staff, and other union stakeholders. General student feedback and focus groups will help the design team refine the brand look and feel until a final outcome is achieved.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: DON’T BE SAFE!
Experiment. Take risks. Have fun. Be pioneering.
Ignore what other Students’ Unions are doing. We’re not a normal Students’ Union.
We are a Union for our exceptionally creative members.
Completely reimagine the Union’s visual identity. You will be working with our name UCA Students’ Union, although you can choose to add University for the Creative Arts Students’ Union and UCASU options if you wish.
You should consider:
- Colourways [required]
- Fonts – we’ll pay for any font licences required for the final outcome [required]
- Other graphic elements
Think about how the typography and other visual elements sit together. An example of this can be seen in the new branding for the Premier League by Design Studio:
You may also want to think about how shapes and colours combine to create meaning. Creative Review explored Andy Murray’s identity, which is a good example:
Importantly, the brand should be flexible enough to be applied to things like:
- UCASU.COM – viewed on desktop, mobile and tablet
- Ballpoint pens
- Clothing (embroidered or printed)
- Mobile app icon
- Pin badges
