Conference Helper – Student Experience Conference

WHAT IS THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE CONFERENCE?

This is the fourth year the University has run an all campus conference for students and staff to attend. At this conference, they discuss current issues and topics at UCA and attendees get input into University decisions. This year’s theme is “assessment feedback”, looking at how students received feedback on their assessed work. Students who attend are automatically entered into a prize for either an iPad mini, iPad air or 1 of 5 UCA hoodies.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Work within a small team of helpers (4) to ensure the smooth operation of the day’s events. This includes having a strong client focus, good organisational & timekeeping skills and ensuring everything you do represents the values of both UCASU and UCA. Furthermore, you will undertake any other duties the Student Engagement Coordinator deems appropriate.

PAY AND BENEFITS

£60 for the day. Branded t-shirt, lunch, and return travel from campus to venue is provided.

CONDITIONS

You must be a UCA Course Reps (and Rochester and Farnham PGs who have attended PG Forum). No previous experience required but will be taken into consideration. Please note: You will not be entered into the student attendee’s competition or be eligible for any of the prizes on the day.

Chances will arise for you to be paid to represent students on some of the bigger committees within UCA. We will advertise these paid opportunities to you on the UCASU website and email. So keep a look out!

However, these paid opportunities require you to have attended the Intro/Refresh training and completed the online training about meeting skills.

Please note: Attendance at Course Boards and School Boards will not be paid. Only committees, meetings and panels beyond your role as a course rep will offer payment. Payment will vary between committees as it will reflect the time commitment required.

Role: 2 x course reps to sit on QEC (Quality Enhancement Committee)

Payment: £40 p/person
Description: This committee is chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. It looks at University policy in relation to how the courses are delivered. They set regulations and monitor the quality of the University’s courses.
It is very important to the University that students have an opportunity to feedback on all areas of the University’s operation. Your role will be to read papers ahead of the meeting and contribute any views you have in discussions. The clerk to the committee will be happy to meet with you in advance of each meeting to discuss the papers with you and to advise what might emerge from the meeting, and where your view might be particularly useful.
