ROCHESTER CAMPUS OFFICER CANDIDATESAYUNIE ADIANA ANDI DJOHAR | TASMIN BRINDLEY | SCARLETT HOOPER
AYUNIE ADIANA ANDI DJOHAR[VISIT CANDIDATE PAGE]
I am Ayunie Adiana Andi Djohar and I am currently in my third year doing Computer Animation Arts. There are a few things I am passionate about which includes football and travelling. I was beyond elated when I got into UCA because finally, I was able to lead an independent life far away from home and I get to catch live football matches of my favourite team! Aside from that, I love travelling because it exposes me to different cultures and meeting new people Having said that, UCA is known as an institution of creativity and are culturally diverse and I have made friends with different backgrounds and it is really a life changing experience because you’re always learning something new.
IF ELECTED, HOW WOULD YOU CREATE MORE OF A COMMUNITY?
If I am elected for the position, I would like to be able to create a place where students of different courses are able to meet each and interact with each other through various social events. This will help to establish a connection between course and I am sure this will be useful especially when it comes to collaborating in their projects. Furthermore, being an international student myself, and knowing that the international student community in UCA is expanding, I feel that I am able to offer guidance to students within the community, as it is essential that everyone feel part of the community and not be singled out. After all, everyone wants a memorable and unique university experience so everyone should work together. Additonally, I would want to be able to create a platform between the univeristy and the students so that students will be aware of the upcoming changes that the University plans to make and vice versa. Example of this would be putting forward their thoughts on what changes that the student body wants to see to improve their student life. Many changes were made in this academic year including the rebranding of the logo and the project space being the two issues that have been the central discussion for the students. There were no replacement for students to hang out during lunch breaks when the student bar was taken down. Students have expressed their unhappiness about this and no updates from the University were given. If I am elected, the top of the list to do is to create this platform so that it will improve the communications between the students and the University which I believe is essential and one of the core criterias in building a better student life.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS?
I would like students to be more proactive in terms of being part of the community. With the positive changes made within the union in the last year and I witnessed it first hand as I am the captain of the Netball Team and the President of the Multicultural Society, both that I’ve set up with the aid of the union. I want other students to be able to do so too. I want to be let them know that the union is available to help them out to enrich their university experience. In order to achieve this, the existence of the student union within the campus should first be established and this can be done during Welcome Orientations. More advertising of the union should be done to let students know what opportunities they can be part of. This includes the council positions.
HOW WOULD YOU INSPIRE STUDENTS TO HAVE A VOICE?
Organising quarterly forum/gathering would also be part of the plan to bring student together as this would be a platform for them to raise their concerns or voice out their views on anything, which I will then be able to bring forward to the committee. Apart from that, informing the members of staff about the SU’s event calendar for the year would be effective as it keep them in the loop, and if these information are shared with students, more things can be looked forward to and students would also be able to hold an event alongside with the SU’s events or an event that the SU will support.
