AYUNIE ADIANA ANDI DJOHAR – ROCHESTER MULTICULTURAL OFFICER CANDIDATE
I am Ayunie Adiana Andi Djohar and I am currently in my second year doing Computer Animation Arts. I am running for the Multicultural Officer. I am running for this position because I believe that I can help represent the growing multicultural student community in UCA.
I am a self-motivated individual with leadership qualities. I believe that this will be the position for me because I grew up in a multicultural society. In Singapore, I went to school with people of different races and ethnic groups. I’ve learnt to understand, appreciate and respect each race and culture which I believe is very important. In the UCA community, we are bound to interact with people of different walks of life and it is essential that everyone feels part of the community and not be singled out. After all, everyone wants a memorable and unique college experience so everyone should work together.
Also, I am currently learning a few other languages including French, Spanish and German to improve myself and I find it essential
and definitely a way to be culturally aware.
IF ELECTED, HOW WOULD YOU CREATE MORE OF A COMMUNITY?
Right now, each campus seems to be standing on its own and there are similar courses being done cross campus so if students who are in the same field of study is able to get in touch with each other through a certain medium, that’ll be fantastic. Creating a forum for students to post their surveys/ a place for them to post their ads (As some students would like to collaborate with people of different course) this would be a great place to do it.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS?
I would talk to course leaders as most probably they have connections to people from the industry which can help students find their work placement/ experience or internship quite easily. Also, if they are able to find people from the industry to give talks to aspire students.
HOW WOULD YOU INSPIRE STUDENTS TO HAVE A VOICE?
Since we’re in the age of technology and everyone seems to use this as a medium of connection, fully utilising it by having an active student forum(preferably on Facebook) so students can voice out any issues that they face and it can be addressed as soon as possible.
