ANNABEL GIRAUD-TELME – ROCHESTER CAMPUS OFFICER CANDIDATE

[OTHER ROCHESTER CAMPUS OFFICER CANDIDATES: SCARLETT HOOPER]

THIS CANDIDATE HAS WITHDRAWN FROM THE ELECTION

ABOUT ME:

Hello! As a graduate from the Access course and in my third year of Fashion Atelier, I have been here a while…. Apparently I am not yet ready to leave, either! A little history about me: I am French and English , I have four sisters and love to travel. Part of my student life at UCA Rochester has always been heavily involved with the Student Union and helping others- coming from a large family, this comes naturally to me. My past roles have included: Class Representative (2 years for Atelier and 1 year for Access) Student Trustee, Student Experience Officer, Student Helper and Student Ambassador, therefore I believe Campus Officer is a natural progression. With all of the above roles, I have campaigned: against student’s fees, against technical and academic cuts and for better standards for students. Separately from university, I have curated exhibitions, which have highlighted students work externally, free-lanced for a variety of companies ranging from styling, to photography assisting to designing and creating bespoke piece. My friends will tell you that; listening, organisation, voicing an opinion or concern and wanting things to be correct and fair are my main attributes, even when it is not always best for me personally, this is why I believe that, that you can be fully confident in me, Annabel Giraud-Telme as the best candidate for the Campus Officer role.

IF ELECTED, HOW WOULD YOU CREATE MORE OF A COMMUNITY?

I believe there can be greater interaction through all years of all courses, and even with staff, admin/security, campuses and locally: I propose a monthly session where everyone is invited to come along, have a cup of tea and a slice of cake and interact with each other in order to instigate and develop relationships between all. The community notice boards could also be updated so that people can offer some of their time helping with a skill in exchange for help with something they need- this could be done through physical handwritten posters and an up to date electronic board where communities across all campuses could push further development. A huge push to promote the UCA social media to students, prospective students and graduates will also encourage interaction by showcasing pictures or highlighting work to encourage online debate, conversation and communities.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS?

Ideally strengthen relationships with local and national art/design and photography communities…. whilst some links are already strong, others have room for improvement. As previously mentioned, inviting the local community into the university would mean cross industry collaborations and personal development for all involved. Each month asking one of the university courses to show what they do and how they do it, so that all students develop a basic understanding of the courses at university.

HOW WOULD YOU INSPIRE STUDENTS TO HAVE A VOICE?

Naturally, pushing students interaction would develop self-confidence thus aiding to find a student voice. Part of the monthly university course ‘highlight’ would be run by the students this developing their experiences and teaching them skills they would not already know. Promoting the student ambassador scheme so that all students understand that they can become a paid ambassador also means that students will have to develop their confidence and presentation skills.
