MICHELLE WENMOUTH – CANTERBURY STUDENT EXPERIENCE OFFICER CANDIDATE[OTHER CANTERBURY STUDENT EXPERIENCE OFFICER CANDIDATES: NONE]
I’m one of the course rep students for first year fine art.
I’m also working for Student Ambassador UCA.
I do a lot outside activities.
I’m one of the student experience officer at the moment and hope to carry on.
IF ELECTED, HOW WOULD YOU CREATE MORE OF A COMMUNITY?
I do feel that there is a lack of student interest in general. and all they want is free stuff and that is what the student are mainly engaged with. I would speak to the students more and collect data from them, then some how work with that data. Understanding their point of view and put that in consideration.
So that the students are more motivated and engage on what they want to do.
I would work with the students and have meetings or mini meeting on how to we can improve things as a student and as a UCA. I would ask for the different course to select student to come up to me and talk about issue that needs to be put forward and most important. Hope that they’re point will be put across to the uni or student union.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS?
I would have a meeting about involving UCA students to participate more with creative competitions from around Canterbury or online or different university. Try and understand students point of view by having survey or by talking to them, on what they want us to do or what they would like to change. I do feel that it’s not just about us who want to change but for the actual group of student to listened to and make changes for them.
HOW WOULD YOU INSPIRE STUDENTS TO HAVE A VOICE?
I will try to communicate with them and understand what they want to change. Because mainly working and understanding student I will have to communicate with them to understand what they want, because of how things are hard for them, keeping their opinion to themselves. I will let them know that a student rep that we are there for them. I feel that working as a student experience officer weren’t really presented well and none really knows who we are, or probably they don’t care. I would say that ‘ if you change nothing, nothing will change’, ‘don’t expect changes if you don’t make one.’
