ELLIE WEBB – CANTERBURY CAMPUS OFFICER CANDIDATE[OTHER CANTERBURY CAMPUS OFFICER CANDIDATES: NONE]
I am a third year student on the fine art course I specialise in experience installation and sculpture using metal. Currently I am one of the student experience officers, one of the third year course reps and part of the student ambassador program.
IF ELECTED, HOW WOULD YOU CREATE MORE OF A COMMUNITY?
I hope to connect the 4 campuses better, I want to build a sense of community amongst UCA as a whole not just on Canterbury campus. To do this I want to arrange social events that bring the students together.
On Canterbury campus I want to try and mix the separate courses together, Canterbury UCA keeps building the amount of courses we offer but there is still a separation between the students. I will do this by creating different events that combine the different students not just social ones but also academic ones.
I also want to try and put some of the SU events on the students time tables and get tutors and other staff member in the loop with what is going on so they can also help to promote SU events and tell the students they talk to all the time about what they can do to make changes around the university.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS?
I would like to give students the opportunity’s to mix with other students whether that is from the other UCA campuses or from the other universities in Canterbury. As a smaller campus we don’t have the numbers to match the other universities in Canterbury on social events so we could join up with then.
HOW WOULD YOU INSPIRE STUDENTS TO HAVE A VOICE?
I want to get members of staff that talk to students often more in the loop with what the SU is doing and up coming events so they can promote how the students can make changes around the university. I will also promote to students to become part of the student council so they can have there say on what goes on around the university.
