VICE-PRESIDENT KENT CANDIDATES
NO MANIFESTO SUBMITTED
I first became interested in student union politics after being discriminated against for being transgender at school. Without Labour’s Equality Act of 2010 I would have been unable to overcome the discrimination I faced. This led to me becoming a member of the Labour Party and being elected women’s officer of Rochester’s constituency Labour Party. I’m sure many of you know about the abuse I got for this, which while dreadful, also gave me a big platform to promote youth representation and value, as well as transgender equality, on a national level.
It’s essential the value students bring to our university is recognised. We will suffer most from the depredation capitalism has caused our environment. It’s us who have to endure the mistakes of the financial sector, rescued by mortgaging our future. It’s us who are patronised and talked down to, even as we live harder lives than our parents. We need a Vice-President who will bring the flair of a left-wing agenda to our policy, fighting against rising student fees and shabby housing. It’s high time our voices are heard, and if elected I promise to be that voice.
