Black History Month

BHM 1 OCT - 31 OCT

We are looking for students to get involved with Black History Month 2024!

Black History Month is an annual month-long observation to celebrate, educate and learn more about Black culture and history. It is an opportunity to reflect on and challenge the structures that continue to uphold racial hierarchies, such as institutional racism, that perpetuate negative stereotypes and keep limiting structures in place.

The Theme for Black History Month 2024 is ‘Rewriting Narratives’. This is an incredibly important theme which aims to bring light to historical inaccuracies, celebrates black success and aims to challenge prejudice. Honouring the achievements and contributions of the black community is long overdue and society needs to do better.

This can be by hosting events, running campaigns, or really- anything that you would like to do! UCASU holds bi-weekly meetings that are open to students that identify as black, to give them an opportunity to input into our Black History Month campaign. Please contact one of your elected officers for more information on getting involved or fill out the form here.
