STATEMENT REGARDING UCU STRIKES ON 25 & 26 May 2016

UCA Students' Union supports the University and Colleges Union strike action taking place next week.

Students often feed back to us that our teaching staff go above and beyond their contracted hours, staying late in workshops and offering pastoral support for students when it’s needed. We recognise that they deserve to be paid accordingly to reflect this hard work, we also recognise that if staff are not paid a fair wage we risk losing them and the standard of teaching quality being reduced at UCA.

In light of the release of the White Paper stating that tuition fees will rise in line with inflation, for the government to not increase wages in line with this same inflation is an insult to our hardworking teaching staff.

We urge students to support the staff with this strike by tweeting #FairPayinHE and joining them on the picket lines.

NUS’s response can be viewed here, and UCUs reasons for striking can be found here.
