ONLINE ART GALLIERS – MAKING BOTH ART AND BEING AN ARTIST ACCESSIBLE
The online art gallery market is rapidly expanding, giving emerging artists the platform to showcase their work to a global audience, and buyers a diverse pool of original work to explore. With websites like Paddle8 with backers such as Damien Hirst and Jay Jopling, there has never been a more accessible time to be an artist.
…Okay so a high end auction website where work sometimes sells for hundreds of thousands of pounds might not be your starting point but it’s good to have goals right?
So how does it work and how do you get your work out on these sites? Last year at the Free Range Photography Graduate show, I had my work exhibited with hundreds of other students at the show and that’s where I first got contacted by such websites. So although you don’t need to physically showcase your work to get it noticed, if you do, always have business cards with your work that have contact details and preferably a website showcasing further work.
You can go directly to lots of these websites where you can submit your work with an artists statement and it goes from there – some websites get you to pay a flat rate first off while others charge a percentage per sale. They all work differently and some work better for fine art than photography which is why you should always do research.
Here are a few websites to kick-start your research to find out if online galleries is the right platform for your work:
Anything and everything creative from Jewellery, painting, sculptures and photography. You can only submit your work if you’re currently studying or have graduated in the past 5 years.
Another mixed media selling platform; painting, prints, photography, drawing sculpture and mixed media.
“Millennium operates in the field of contemporary photography. Our aim is to bridge a common gap between artistic endeavour and commercial sucesses.”
GOTO-FOTO are stock image production agency that supply both commercial and creative imagery.
Good luck and let us know of any tips of websites that have worked for you!
