Hello Everyone and a Happy New Year to you all from UCASU!

The Entertainments Calendar for January is now available for download here.

On this month’s posters you’ll notice some “You spoke, we listened” logos.  These relate to all the changes we’ve made as a result of your feedback.  You’ll find more musical choice and more promos as well as the introduction of reduced/free entry fee for certain days and times.

We want you to know that as part of our UCAn Change campaign we’re taking on board and acting on what you’re saying.  Currently the venue is operating in the best way it can with the funds available to it.  The drinks and entry fees are as low as we can afford to make them and fingers crossed with your help we can convince the University to step up and improve the venue and support us more so we can improve the service we’re providing you with.

The Students’ Union realise that many students are a bit short of a bob or too at this time of year, what with the loans starting to dry up (or not having arrived in the first place!) and the amount of presents that need to be bought for family and friends.  So we thought we’d try and bring you all a little festive cheer before you head home for the holidays…

You spoke and we listened…

so in a change of plan we are now moving the Christmas Blowout to Monday 14th December and dropping the door price from £5 to the usual £3.  We’re running our usual “shots for £1 promos” and holding a Christmas Card Raffle.  And, if that wasn’t enough, we’re also giving a way a free drink to the first 50 people to arrive!

Michelle will be in the office from 9:30 – 2:30 Monday to Friday so pop in and say hi.

The Students’ Union is here to support you so if you have a question or concern, want to buy a hoody or collect your NUS card, want to start a club or society or just want a chat we are here for you.

Campus Officer

Be a member of the Trustee Board (meets 4 times a year)
Chair Campus Parliaments which meets around twice a term
Attend campus Representation committee

Black Students’ Representative

Ensure that the actions of the Union provide a safe and prejudice free area for students of all ethnic backgrounds
Raise awareness of the Race Equality action plan amongst students within the university.

Activities Representative

Promote the clubs and societies in the union, encourage students to participate.

Students with Disabilities Representative

Ensure that disabled students views and opinions are reflected throughout the whole of the students unions work.
Provide a disabled students perspective on all matters and provide a regular forum/group for disabled students to meet.
Liaise with the NUS Students With Disabilities Campaign and SKILL

Entertainments and Social Representative

Generate ideas for a variety of entertainment and other social activities to reflect the interests of all sections of the student body
Work with the Commercial Services department and make sure proper procedure is followed

International Students Representative

Representing International Students’ issues
Contact with other organisations and the persons of the university with responsibility for international students.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transexual Students Representative (LGBT)

Ensure that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transexual (LGBT) student views and opinions are reflected throughout the whole of the Students’ union’s work.
Provide a LGB perspective on all matters concerning the Union and the university, and a regular forum/group for LGB students to meet.

Women’s Welfare Representative

Ensure that Women’s welfare views and opinions are reflected throughout the whole of the students’ union work

Men’s Welfare Representative

Ensure that Men’s welfare views and opinions are reflected throughout the whole of the students unions work

Post grad and Mature students Representative

Represent the views of all Post Grad and mature students within the union
Organise meetings with these groups

Environmental and Ethics Representative

To promote environmental issues within the University and union
To campaign on environmental and ethical issues and form groups to do this
