MARCH 2013 ELECTION – EPSOM MANIFESTOS

CAMPUS OFFICER (1 CANDIDATE, 1 POSITION)

CANDIDATE: ED HEWISON

My name is Ed, I am a Music Journalism graduate from UCA Epsom.

I really enjoyed my three years at the university and it is a great campus to study at, but I think I can make it an even better place for the students of next year.

I am running to make sure that Epsom students get the best . It is important that those studying here get improved academic standards and facilities, along with a university that feels more like a place to be creative and social, and less like a place of work.

UCA Epsom should be a place to relax and meet friends. I do not think that is the case at the moment. We can create a better environment for socialising and studying, and that is something I really want to see happen in the immediate future.

Student safety on campus is always going to be a primary concern for the university, but that does not mean that we should sacrifice the ability for classrooms and workshops to open later. I want to see the university continue to make the effort to keep these rooms open, especially close to important student deadlines, and during final project weeks.

Clubs and Societies are really important for student life, and I want to make sure that they are promoted a lot more, and students don’t feel overwhelmed by the procedures around starting their own societies. I want to increase the amount of strong and active societies, making sure to support the existing societies that are already succeeding and improving the social side of this university.

I have identified student satisfaction as one of my top priorities to focus on, and I want to see the Course Representative system begin to develop in Epsom a lot more over the next few years. This is something I would be focusing on and pushing forward if I were Campus Officer next year.

It is important that the person who gets this position is someone who will listen to you. I will make sure that the student voice is heard and I want Epsom students to feel comfortable that any campaign they want to run is supported and facilitated by the Students’ Union. I will make sure that if you have any problems, they get sorted with minimal hassle.

I want UCA to be a university that takes good care of it s students. This university should know what students want and keep them as the top priority. I want to make sure that happens next academic year.

That is why I’m running.

So vote Ed #1 for Epsom Campus Officer.

STUDENT EXPERIENCE OFFICER (1 CANDIDATE, 3 POSITIONS)

CANDIDATE: PETER HOPTON

I am Peter Hopton, a First year Graphic Design student and I am running for the position of Student Experience Officer.

• Fight to get a bar into the union ready for next year.

• Aim to get the Student Union area up and running well by end of office.

• Make the union somewhere where people actually want to spend time to Socialise and meet people from other course.

• Make it imperative that when a decision is made on an action that the students hear about it fast !

• Ensure that any issue big or small is heard and acted upon fast!

• Encourage new and established societies to continue to expand.

I have been on council this year and have been striving to make the changes that we desire, we have made some progress, but not what I was aiming for, that is why I’m asking you to keep me in so I can continue to push towards the changes and goal that I set out last year. I really want to push social events for students to interact with other people.

I have been on student councils before whiles doing my A-levels and on foundation and help to change the ways that the onsite facilities (like the dark room) were allocated and used by the students! I am also a Scout leader so I spend a lot of time listening to the concerns of the scouts in my care and helping them achieve their best !

Always happy to listen to peoples issues and needs.

So a vote for me means a vote for faster change in shaping our Union!

I’m Jade and I believe that University is a great place for students to embrace their identity and use the body of LGBT people to help raise awareness and educate others on LGBT issues in our struggle to achieve recognition and equality.

If elected to be the LGBT Student Officer, I would:

Create awareness for the need and right for LGBT safe spaces. Teach students and staff what a safe place is and why it is important.

Create a LGBT discussion group, finding our what LGBT students want to campaign for and and raise awareness of. I would particularly like to create a positive profile for transgender students, collaborating with NUS.

Educate students on the effect of homophobic and transphobic bullying by promoting websites designed to inform people on the issues that LGBT students face and promoting messages against such incidents.

And just generally express a platform for LGBT individuals feel equal in all aspects.

CANDIDATE: CHRIS KYPRI

Hi I’m Christopher Kypri, currently studying my first year of Graphic Design at UCA in Epsom. I’ve been really interested into starting the UCA football team, I think potentially there are many voices in UCA but no one will come forthand speak and I think I am able to be the voice and get things moving and get people interested.
