Hi I’m Hayleigh, I believe at UCA we should be doing a lot more when it comes to helping disabled students get the most out of their university experience.
I feel that we can do a lot more to improve every students experience at university by concentrating on the social aspect. It can be hard for those with disabilities to socialise and enjoy themselves without the anxiety and stress it may cause. I feel as though this is especially important with the upcoming cuts to learning support.
You should vote for me because this is a topic I am very passionate about, and will do all I can to make everyones experience a UCA a memorable one!

Hello, my name is Becky Dann. I am a third year Photography student and I would like to be your new Students with Disabilities Officer.

I was born with a spinal condition called Scoliosis, which eventually left me paralysed from the waist down. I was told by doctors I would never walk again. Fortunately they were wrong and I am now able to walk aided. After spending my years in High School with hardly any disabled access or support I became very passionate about helping others with disabilities. I now work with disabled children as a part time job while I am at University which has given me experience in working with not only physically disabled people but also mentally disabled people and being your Students with Disabilities Officer would be an honor.

I feel I would be a good candidate, as I would have empathy towards other students and their needs. I have learnt to over come certain obstacles that have come my way but I know there is still so much that can be done to help others.

I came to UCA Farnham because I felt that for me it had the best access for disabled students and I have received great support. I feel that disabled students don’t always know who or where to turn, to voice their issues.

As Disabilities officer, I aim to improve wheelchair access, disability support in education, the facilities for disabled students, more opportunities for people with disabilities and to also give disabled students a platform to voice their concerns to students union and accommodation. I also understand that having a disability can be extremely isolating and it can be hard to attend events in which you can meet other people, so I would like to help disabled students broaden their social interactions.

Hopefully we can work together to improve disabled students University experience.
VOTE BECKY!!!!!

My name is Kaileigh Borden-Nolan,and I am running to be your next Student with Disabilities Officer. I am a Dyspraxic and Dyslexic student with a Congenital hip condition. As a student with various difficulties I want to help improve our UCA environment to make it more accessible and approachable.

I will aim to rid of the stigma associated with learning difficulties–
Even though our university consists of a large majority of people with learning difficulties, I find that people are still shy of what their differences are that set them apart. I also find that the lack of awareness amongst students of various difficulties enables judgement and seclusion. I want to help so that we all feel included, and feel we can share our differences without judgement.

Also, I don’t want to just rid of the social stigma around the university, I would like to communicate a larger message to the outside community and work towards acceptance of all disability differences. I feel a university student could influence society of today, and this could be my opportunity,as well as yours.

I will aim to consistently push for compromises to be made by the University for people with specific needs–
I motivated the university to make digital textbooks acceptable for projects as I personally struggled to do physical sketchbooks in year one. Since it was accepted as an option for people a like, it has now been made an option for my course. Quick, easy, simple. I can be the person to work towards making these kind of changes for you.
I also believe lockers should be available for students with physical disabilities while on campus. I find it a physical struggle to carry books as well as my laptop around the University if I have a whole day. I know that I wouldn’t be the only student who would benefit from this.

Your Needs.
Your Change.
