ABOUT ME:

Hello, I’m a first year student and proud member of the LGBT community. After being a part of the LGBT club (GSD, Farnham) for this first year of my education, I feel accepted and involved by the community here at the Farnham campus. With the current LGBT officer at Farnham ending her third year of study, I decided (after gaining support from other GSD members) to put forward my name as an Officer.

IF ELECTED, HOW WOULD YOU CREATE MORE OF A COMMUNITY?

I aim to continue on a safe and friendly environment for students both in and out of the LGBT community. With 30 students being a part of the GSD students facebook page, it’s clear that social media has a good influence on connecting communities. This is a great start however when meetings and events are organized the attending numbers are considerably less. If elected I hope to have the supportive community meet with more numbers in order for members to feel more included in a larger community. To do this I would ask members what events they would attend, or what could be done to make the events of the GSD more interesting and involving. I’d listen to these points and work with my fellow students to further create an environment that they feel safe and involved in. I’d also attempt to reach out to other campus’s to see how they create a community and also engage with them in an attempt to create a way of students finding more, like minded friends.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS?

I shall try to bring opportunities for students to use their skills in their chosen creative areas to help promote the society and everything it stands for. I would like for student to not only have activates that better promote their skills but helps them gain confidence and make them feel included and influential in a valid part of society.

HOW WOULD YOU INSPIRE STUDENTS TO HAVE A VOICE?

I will always aim to be an inspiration to students and to help them gain the confidence they need to become their own voice of power. And with student activates I will hope to get them to be more involved with the students courses or skills. However most of the influences of LGBT community should be from the members themselves and so any plans for these areas should be negotiable between the student members. I hope to be the inspiration that they wish to see supporting them and their ideas.
