UCA Green

From the UCA Green website:

On average every person in the UK throws away his or her body weight in rubbish every 7 weeks. Less waste means using fewer natural resources and less energy in making products, less land put aside for burying waste in landfill and less energy and money spent on recycling.

At UCA we are committed to reducing the amount of waste we generate and will be introducing initiatives to help you reduce waste and recycle. You will be informed about these initiatives as they are introduced but in the meantime simple changes in your behaviour can make a real difference and here are some that you might like to follow to support our commitment to reduce waste and recycle.

Purchase goods that use less packaging or that are made from recycled materials
Recycle as much as you can and ensure you follow the instructions for recycling on recycling banks

Opt for durable not disposable products , buying second hand and reusing products not only reduces waste it is also good for the bank balance.

Drink tap water – it is between 100 and 300 times less expensive than bottled water
8.3 million tonnes of food is thrown away by households in the UK every year.

Reducing food waste is a major issue and not just about good food going to waste. Wasting food costs the average family with children £680 a year and has serious environmental implications too. If we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten, the CO2 impact would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 4 cars off the road.

To find out more about how you can reduce the food you waste visit the Love Food hate waste website http://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com.

When you move out at the end of term don’t just dump your stuff, recycle or donate it to charity. You can find more useful information about reducing waste and recycling by clicking on the external links to the right of this page.
