FARNHAM: STATEMENT REGARDING ACCOMMODATION
SU update on Farnham student accommodation:
This week I had a meeting with the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Corporate Resources regarding student accommodation in Farnham and some issues we have been made aware of by students who have been unable to find housing.
At the meeting I was informed that the University has been very aware of the rising demand for campus and local residential accommodation for students at Farnham. I have been assured that the Accommodation Office is working hard to help any students who still need accommodation at Farnham. The University are aware of the situation that a small number of students are in and we are working with them to ensure these students are supported in this difficult situation.
We, as your Students’ Union have highlighted the need for process reviews to be undertaken. This will ensure the ongoing improvement of the allocation process as well as support in finding off site accommodation, especially as this is an ongoing situation. This was agreed by the University who had already started this process.
The University has maximised the use of its own residential accommodation in the Student Village but will continue to allocate rooms if they become available. The Accommodation Office are also working to help any students looking for private landlord accommodation in the surrounding area.
The UCA Leadership Team has been actively looking at creating more capacity through on campus developments and residential partnerships during the Summer months with the aim to increase capacity for 2017 and the longer term. This has been spurred on by the residential letting environment in the region seeing a recent less private accommodation being available to students.
We are hoping that by working together as the Students’ Union representing your views and the University Leadership Team talking a stance to create more capacity for accommodation we will be able to start to resolve this. For now, if you need any advice please contact the Accommodation Office on 01252 892974.
